Install the OcaltQL Client on an Android phone

Install the app and grant the permissions a phone needs to work as a machine.

Open OcaltQL Client

Steps

  1. On the phone, go to client.ocalt.com, tap Download the client and download the Android APK.
  2. Open the download. When Android asks, allow your browser to install apps for this install.
  3. Open the client and sign in with your Ocalt identity, your Client key and a machine alias.
  4. Work through the setup checklist. For each item the client opens the right settings screen: All files access, Display over other apps, Accessibility, Notifications, Install updates and Unrestricted battery. Come back to the client after each.
  5. On Android 13 and later, Accessibility is locked at first. Try to turn it on once, then open Settings, Apps, Ocalt Client, tap the three-dot menu and choose Allow restricted settings. Now turn Accessibility on.

Good to know

  • “App not installed” part-way through usually means a 32-bit phone. The client needs a 64-bit (arm64) phone.
  • Anything you skip is asked for again the next time you open the client.
