Add a mailbox on your own domain

Send and receive as you@yourcompany.com, with the DNS records listed for you.

Open Ocalt Email

Before you start

  • You can sign in where your domain's DNS is managed (often the company you bought it from).

Steps

  1. Click Accounts in the side menu, then Add a mailbox.
  2. Click Custom domain, then Continue.
  3. Under Which domain do you want to use?, type the Domain name. Use a subdomain such as mail.company.co.za if you want to leave existing email on the main domain alone.
  4. Fill in the First address, its Display name and a Mailbox password. Click Continue.
  5. Choose how to point the domain: Add records (add four records at your current DNS host) or Use Ocalt nameservers (Ocalt hosts the whole DNS zone and keeps the records right).
  6. For Add records, copy each record under Records to add into your DNS host. For nameservers, replace the nameservers at your registrar with the ones shown.
  7. Click Create mailbox.

What happens next

Mail starts arriving once the records reach the internet, usually within an hour.

Good to know

  • An A record does not deliver email. The MX record is the one that does.
  • To see the records again later, open Accounts, click the mailbox, and look under DNS records.
