Make a protocol of your own
Turn something you do again and again into one command, with the steps you choose and the parts that change each time.
Open OmniSteps
- Open the ☰ menu at the top right, choose Protocols, then Create protocol.
- Type the command you will say, such as *weather for*, and add a wildcard for each part that changes. A wildcard has a kind: Text, Number, Money, Currency, Date, Time, Time zone, Person, Company, Email, Phone, Place, Coordinates, Country, Link, Domain, File, Folder, Machine, Mailbox, List and more. Under Try it, type a sentence to see what it would fill in.
- Click Next and add the steps, by tapping or dragging: Omni's own (invoice, email, presentation, website, notify me…), steps such as Get the weather, Convert money, Find a place, Distance between places and Time in a time zone, or any command from your Ocalt apps under From your Ocalt apps. Drop a wildcard, or the result of an earlier step, onto each socket.
- Click Next and choose how it starts: when you say it, on the calendar, or when something happens (a web page changes, a file appears, mail arrives).
- Click Create protocol.
What happens next
Say the command in Omni, on its own or in a chain with anything else. A protocol that starts on the calendar or on a trigger runs with no one there, so every wildcard needs a usual value and every step must be one that can run on its own.
Good to know
- Protocols in the ☰ menu lists yours with Use, Edit and Delete, and every built-in one with examples.
- Phrases you taught Omni are listed there too, and can be forgotten.
