Make a spreadsheet or a note in Omni

Ask for a spreadsheet and Omni lays one out that you can type straight into and save as an Excel or CSV file. Ask for a note and Omni pins it to Pinstant, where every device you use can see it.

Steps

  1. A spreadsheet: type *create a spreadsheet*, *create a budget for the wedding* or *create a spreadsheet with columns name, email and phone*. Omni picks headings that suit what you named (a budget gets Item, Category, Planned and Actual), or uses the columns you listed.
  2. Type into the cells. Enter moves down and adds a row at the bottom, Tab moves across. A cell that starts with = is a formula, such as *=B2*C2* or *=SUM(D2:D9)*, and shows its answer when you leave it.
  3. Change it in words in the box under the sheet: *add a column called Due*, *add 5 rows*, *sort by Amount*, *add a total row*, *rename column Item to Product*, *make it csv*.
  4. Click Save. Omni saves the sheet to your Omni files as an Excel file (or CSV, if you asked) and gives you a file card you can open, download or share with Get a link. Formulas and the total row are kept as real Excel formulas.
  5. A note: type *add a note buy printer ink*, *note that the server password changed*, or just *take a note* and write it in the box. Click Pin it and it goes to your Pinstant board, marked as from Omni.
  6. Pin what a step made: end a chain with *pin it*, for example *what is the weather in Durban and pin it* or *convert 1500 USD to ZAR then pin it*. The answer is written into the note and pinned.

What happens next

Both work in a chain like any other step: *create a spreadsheet with columns item and price then email it to the accountant* sends the saved file. A note pinned from Omni appears on every device where Pinstant is open, the same as a pin made there.

Good to know

  • A note keeps the words exactly as you said them. A spreadsheet title drops a leading *the*, so *a budget for the wedding* is titled Wedding.
  • To start again, type *clear it* in a note, or open a new spreadsheet; nothing is saved until you click Save or Pin it.
