Add a machine to Fabric

Put a laptop, server, phone or SSH host into your fleet.

Open Fabric

Steps

  1. Open fabric.ocalt.com. Click Machines & Nodes in the side menu, then + Add Machine at the top right.
  2. On Connection, pick Ocalt Client (a device that runs the client) or SSH host (an existing server you reach by SSH, with nothing to install).
  3. Type a Machine ID, a short name like office-laptop. This is the name used everywhere in Fabric and in scripts. Click Continue.
  4. For an SSH host, fill in Label, SSH host, User and Port, then click Continue. To make it a full device, which can be used in every app and shows its screen, files and status, click Install the agent over SSH instead: it opens client.ocalt.com with the host, user, port and Machine ID filled in, and you only add the password or key.
  5. For the Ocalt Client, type a Label if you like. If the client is not installed yet, click the option that opens client.ocalt.com, install it and set its machine alias to the same Machine ID. Then choose the option that says it is already installed and configured.
  6. On Finish, check the summary and confirm.

What happens next

A client machine shows Online as soon as the client on it signs in with that same ID. An SSH host can be reached straight away.

Good to know

  • You can register the name before the device is online. The client claims it when it signs in.
